9:30-11:00 AM – Biofuels panel – Joel Stone, ConVergInce LLC, moderator.
Premise: A business uses biomass to produce liquid fuel, or is processing fuel from bio-based waste materials. What are the challenges he will face developing and meeting market demands?
a. The ethanol blending wall – EPA progress
b. Quality standards in biodiesel
c. Distribution infrastructure
d. Payment of Fed and State road taxes for on road use
e. Effect of tax credits and incentives on pricing.
f. Effect of oil prices on markets.
11:15-12:45 – Biopower panel – Robert Sandy, Alten LLC, moderator.
Premise: A developer builds a plant that is ready to produce electricity. What does it take to deliver this power to the paying customer? How can he monetize his entire output (thermal and power)?
a. SCC issues – Rates, PURPA, public interest, definitions of renewable energy.
b. Utility Issues- hook-ups, prices, rates, capacity payments
c. Jurisdictional customers – capacity costs, net metering
d. What other revenue streams are available (RECs, CCE, etc)
e. What other markets might be available outside Virginia, how are they accessed?
f. Special challenged in methane gas production & utilization?
The WHEN Expo will have many live demos of recycling, chipping and other processing equipment of interest to our members.
