Transportation Energy Partners Names Jacob Schwemlein Executive Director
Former staffer returns to guide national Clean Cities network beginning August 1
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Transportation Energy Partners (TEP), a national nonprofit that brings Clean Cities coalition leaders together with public and private sector partners working to advance alternative transportation fuels, today announced the appointment of Jake Schwemlein as its next Executive Director, effective August 1, 2026. Schwemlein will lead the organization’s policy, membership, and coalition-support work on behalf of the nation’s Clean Cities and Communities network.
Schwemlein re-joins TEP most recently from Clean Fuels Ohio, where he served as Director of Drive Electric Ohio. In that role he led programs to accelerate the adoption of electric and alternative-fuel vehicles, helped fleets and communities navigate charging and fueling infrastructure funding during BIL and NEVI implementation, and worked closely with utilities and state agencies to implement programs supporting alternative fuels. His work has placed him at the center of the national Clean Cities coalition network that TEP supports.
As Executive Director, Schwemlein will guide TEP’s advocacy for federal policies that advance alternative transportation fuels and advanced technology vehicles, strengthen the organization’s membership and coalition partnerships, and represent the network’s priorities before Congress and federal agencies.
TEP supports work in nearly every state to advance fleet and consumer awareness and use of fuels such as biodiesel, electricity, ethanol, hydrogen, natural gas, propane, renewable diesel, and sustainable aviation fuel.
“I’m excited to build on TEP’s work, grow our membership, and make sure coalitions across the country have a voice in Washington,” said Schwemlein. “I’ve spent my career working alongside Clean Cities coalitions and the fleets and communities they serve, and I’ve seen firsthand what this network can accomplish. I’m looking forward to amplifying the message that domestically produced alternative transportation fuels and advanced technology vehicles can help America become more energy efficient and energy independent.”
TEP Board President and Virginia Clean Cities Executive Director, Alleyn Harned, said Schwemlein was selected from a strong pool of candidates for this position. “Our board and search committee were impressed by his record of delivering results for fleets and communities, and we are confident he will be a strong advocate for coalitions across the country.”
The appointment follows a national search led by a TEP board committee including Michael Staley, Alleyn Harned, Joy Gardner, and Lee Grannis.
