On October 8, 2025 Virginia Celebrated Hydrogen Day at Independence Hydrogen with a ribbon cutting at their production facility, and with an expo and workshop at Richard Bland College in Petersburg VA. This event showed the entire hydrogen ecosystem – from production to application – all in one spot and included comments from the Governor.

Independence Hydrogen presented a tour of the plant and hydrogen equipment. Also, several companies brought hydrogen equipment:

  • Hyundai: XCIENT Class 8 truck
  • General Motors: Medium-duty super truck.
  • Drones: Two hydrogen drone companies (Aurora Flight Sciences (Boeing) and Phoenix Flight Industries
  • Hyster-Yale – Mobile EV charging trailer (with hydrogen)
  • Traffic Light Back-Up Power: H2 systems can provide four days of back- up power, plus refueling (Western Systems).
  • CSX Railroad: Have a booth about their new H2 locomotives (I am trying to get them to deploy these to Richmond)
  • Honda: Have a booth about their Plug-In/H2 Hybrid and their new hydrogen onsite power generators.
  • Virginia Clean Cities brought a hydrogen fuel cell stack and information about vehicle technologies for our economy
