If you are interested in an electric vehicle (EV) and are an Appalachian Power customer in Virginia,
the utility has a infrastructure and rate programs to help you save on charging. The first provides a $100 rebate for customers wanting to purchase a Level 2 charger for their homes. The charger must be Energy Star-certified and purchased before December 2026.
Appalachian Power also offers a lower rate for those charging their EVs at home during off-peak hours, which are 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. on the weekdays and all day on the weekends. The utility provides the required meter base and EV meter to qualify for the rate. Residents are responsible for hiring an electrician to install the meter in the charging circuit.
Appalachian Power will install the EV meter after the installation of the additional meterbase has been inspected and approved by the local electrical inspector. Virginia customers can learn more about those lower rates and apply for the Virginia Off-Peak Charing program by visiting the Appalachian Power website.
