Resilient Virginia Clean Transportation Workgroup: Telematics for a Smarter Fleet

Join us on February 18 at 12:00 p.m. as we take a look at how telematics are playing a key role at Blacksburg Transit.

As public transit fleets electrify, the challenge isn’t just switching powertrains—it’s operating them intelligently. Telematics is the backbone that makes an electric fleet reliable, efficient, and cost-effective at scale.

This workgroup will focus on how real-time vehicle and infrastructure data can unlock the full value of electric public transit.

Tim Witten is the ITS Manager for Blacksburg Transit and will share how data is helping to drive their large electric bus fleet efficiently. Cynthia Baute, CEO of Dynamic Data Systems, will also be on hand to talk about the system gathering important information as these buses move people around this western Virginia city.

The Clean Transportation working group brings together cross-sector experts from local and state government, the private sector, nonprofits, and academics from across Central and Southwest Virginia’s transportation world. This convening group’s work is focused on how to mitigate and adapt to climate resiliency challenges and share best practices and knowledge. This group is currently co-led by experts from the transportation world, Alleyn Harned and Tarah Kesterson of Virginia Clean Cities and Tracy Garland of TRC.
