Resilient Virginia Clean Transportation Working Group: Saving Miles With Drones

We are kicking off 2026 talking drones. Some companies are cutting thousands of miles and saving dollars in fuel costs through drone technology. Hear how Jason Smith and Amanda McClellan with Appalachian Power use this technology to get to some hard to reach places when inspecting distribution lines and during power outages. We will also have Karen Jackson from the Commonwealth Center for Advanced Logistics Systems (CCALS) about the great projects and advancements in drone technology they have underway. The Clean Transportation Working Group meets monthly.

This working group brings together cross-sector experts from local and state government, the private sector, nonprofits, and academics from across Central and Southwest Virginia’s transportation world. This convening group’s work is focused on how to mitigate and adapt to climate resiliency challenges and share best practices and knowledge. This group is currently co-led by experts from the transportation world, Alleyn Harned of Virginia Clean Cities and Tracy Garland of TRC.
